THAT WHICH STINKS, FERTILIZES

Well Christmas brought me a Banjo which I have no idea how to play, and a frozen Septic Ejector which I had no idea how to fix, country living at its best.

NEVER LET YOUR FEET RUN FASTER THAN YOUR SHOES

Well, we've learned a few things about farm life and time management. Moving, ending up with a farm full of stuff to clean out and organize, learning what to do with Sheep, Skunks, fixing a septic pump, installing a water softener and generally learning what we are doing isn't the best time to start a blog.

BOUGHT THE FARM

This is the begining of something strange and exciting for us...

WHEN ROOSTER CROWS FROM DUNGHEAP'S TOP...

Winter is coming, time for some new firsts on the farm. First Task: Splitting and stacking wood, moving said wood from yard to wood shed. Second Task: Buy Hay for the sheep

WHEN THE SUN ARISES IN THE WEST...

Taking a trip when you own a farm full of animals who depend on you can be almost impossible without the help of good friends, and you find out REAL quick who your friends are when you propose that they should take over your life for three weeks!

The sun arises in the west, means farmer's compass needs a test....

...Or maybe the farmer is just in New Zealand where EVERYTHING is backwards.

Taking a trip when you own a farm full of animals who depend on you can be almost impossible without the help of good friends, and you find out REAL quick who your friends are when you propose that they should take over your life for three weeks!

Luckily we have good friends.

When Leiah's family moved to New Zealand a few years ago we always knew we would be going to visit them.

Since then we have gotten married, had two serious accidents, sold one house, bought the farm and have along the way accumulated three dogs, two 'fricken grey parrots, a couple chinchillas and thirteen sheep ( 1/3 of the dogs and 1/2 the parrots are a direct result of their global move) making us a couple of busy Bauers. Somehow even with all of this going on in our lives we finally managed to find someone to take it over for three weeks and go away on our first major vacation together, sort of like a belated honeymoon; If you can call being in a car with your parents/in-laws and brother/brother-in-law for three weeks a honeymoon!

But this isn't a blog about foreign travels to places where they say things like 'heaps of fush n chups, bro'. It's about the day to day lives of two city people making a go at farm life.

One thing New Zealand certainly showed us was that as beautiful as it was, we are very lucky to be living this life we have together, away from the complications of the city and the general population

We are happy to be home :)
